Jeff Timmer is the Managing Director of Sterling and leads the Public Affairs division. Timmer is a political, public affairs, and communications strategist who has spent 30 years providing big-picture counsel and communications for leading corporations, trade associations, political organizations, candidates, and campaigns engaged in the arenas of public policy and politics. Jeff is also an award-winning creator, director, and producer of standout broadcast advertising and persuasive direct mail. Campaigns & Elections magazine has recognized Timmer as one of the most connected and influential politicos in Michigan.
Timmer focuses on providing high-level counsel to Sterling clients and on business development, relying on his extensive relationships with Leading Companies and Trade Associations, Top Operatives and Lobbyists, Republican Leaders, Conservative Organizations and Activists, (even Democrats and Progressive Groups because he’s built rapport while butting heads), and other Key Influencers.
Jeff has advised and directed hundreds of winning legislative, congressional, statewide political and ballot issue campaigns, public affairs, earned media, and grasstops and grassroots mobilizations campaigns. He was an advisor to Ohio Governor John Kasich’s 2016 presidential campaign.
Timmer appears frequently as a pundit in several news outlets, presents political commentary at industry, association, and corporate gatherings, and teaches campaigns and communications to a variety of groups.
Timmer has crafted and managed advocacy campaigns for major public policy issues from Alternative Energy to Zoning – and lots of other issues in between, including telecommunications, energy, taxes, gaming, environment, insurance and financial services, healthcare and prescription drugs, transportation, commerce, land use and real estate development, and K-12 and higher education.
Timmer first joined Sterling in 2000 and was part of the ownership group when the company was acquired by Lambert Edwards & Associates in 2014. Jeff also served as Executive Director of the Michigan Republican Party and won wide acclaim for managing one of the top state party organizations in the country and for innovative communications and use of social media and technology.
Jeff is a leading redistricting expert and has been an advisor to Speakers of the Michigan House, Michigan Senate Majority Leaders, the Michigan House and Senate Republican campaign committees, and the Michigan Republican Party.
Jeff is a graduate of James Madison College at Michigan State University. He was appointed by the Governor and served on Michigan’s Board of State Canvassers.
